Bowls & Social Club
Great Waldingfield Bowls Club began in 1986, A group of village gentleman decided they would like to begin a bowling club. When Sudbury Bowls Club replaced their building, they put the old one up for sale for £1,000, The enterprising men asked villagers if they would be willing to contribute a pound each, towards the purchase of the building and happily were able to buy it.

The Sudbury clubhouse was dismantled and a group of volunteers recreated it on the site in Great Waldingfield, where it is now. After a lot of hard work and determination, the club opened its doors in 1988, with over a hundred bowling members. Colin Mitchell was the first Chairperson, he donated a cup which is still competed for today.
Over the years the membership numbers have dramatically reduced, which is very sad. The club belongs to the village, so it would be great to welcome new/prospective members to join in events we have throughout the year.
We have a licensed bar and a small kitchen where we can prepare and serve refreshments.
We were lucky enough to receive various grants which enabled us to upgrade our facilities including a new bowling green carpet, lighting, kitchen and external wall.
We play competitions and friendly matches between our members, which can get very competitive. We are also trying to arrange competitive matches with neighbouring clubs.
If you are interested in bowling or learning to bowl, please contact one of the committee to arrange a roll up. We will have one of our members on hand to offer you assistance and talk you through the membership options over a cuppa.
Apart from bowling, we have social events throughout the year including bingo, entertainment nights, quizzes, a weekly bridge drive and an alternate fortnightly cribbage drive.
Come and say hello, all new bowling and social members will be warmly welcomed.
Bowling membership (which includes social membership) is £50 per annum.
Social membership only is £30 per annum.
Prospective members may have three practice sessions before deciding.
