Amy Acorn’s Forest School

A Forest School adventure began in March 2019 to encourage families and children to explore the woodland and enjoy nature and being outside. So, what can you expect from an Amy Acorn Forest School session? You can pond dip, den build, bug hunt, nature craft, swing in the hammock, practice fire lighting skills, build and then cook over the fire, make bird feeders, wool weave, play in the mud kitchen, balance on the slackline, play games, whittle, use tools, try a compass trail, make bow and arrows.
Information can be found on the Facebook page: Amy Acorn’s Forest School & Outdoor Activities or you can email amyacornforestschool@gmail.com for further information.
Generally, sessions occur:
- Little Acorns (toddler session for the under-fives) meet fortnightly on a Thursday morning 10 – 11:30am.
- Family Sunday Adventure sessions occur once a month on a Sunday morning 11am – 1pm.
- Family Holiday sessions on a Tuesday or Thursday morning in the school holidays.
- Kids only allowed sessions occur once a month on a Friday evening 4-7pm and all day sessions 10am – 3pm in the school holidays.
- Forest School birthday parties also available, which are lots of fun, you can choose your activities and food to cook over the fire.
Amy Acorn works part time for the RSPB and is also a mum to two wild girls (age 11 and 7). She has completed level 3 Forest School training and outdoor first aid training. There is always 1-2 extra people assisting a session.
Amy Acorn actively looks after Old School Wood, coppicing trees, providing a range of animal habitats. This level of care for the woodland is hopefully transferred to children who visit the sessions.
Amy Acorn strongly believes in children spending time outside in nature, playing, learning and having fun. A positive nature connection can be fostered, which is no bad thing when we actively seem to be destroying our beautiful planet! Studies prove nature time promotes positive mental health and well-being, for both children and adults.
Reviews:
‘I asked Amy if she could do my daughter a fairy themed woodland party for her 5th birthday and she did not disappoint! It was perfect from start to finish! We had a fairy scavenger hunt, we made magic fairy and wizard wands, we hunted for bugs, played in the hammock and the mud kitchen and then cooked a feast over the fire! The children had had the most amazing time (even the adults did too!) Thankyou Amy Acorn! Xxx’
‘Absolutely fantastic experience and very well organised with lots of different activities for the children to give a go! We thoroughly loved it and will be booking again!’
‘Honestly the best thing we’ve ever done as a family. It was well organised, there were lots of things to do and it was great fun too! We will definitely be going again.’
‘My 5 year old grandson went to one of Amy’s events and loved every minute. Pond dipping, claywork, bug and egg hunts, dying eggs, campfire with marshmallows and chocolate and boat building to name a few activities crammed into 2.5 hrs- but never seemed rushed. Excellent value, informative and friendly people and even I enjoyed it. Thanks Amy and Mary’
