Crinkle Crankle Wall granted Listed Status

Historic England decided this week that the approximately 200-year-old Crinkle Crankle (or Serpentine) Wall, adjacent to Ardley House and the B1115, should be given Grade 2 Listed Status.

There is clear evidence that it was there in 1846, and other documentation which suggests it could even have been there as early as the late 1700s.

Historic England agree that it has both historic and architectural interest, and that it is “a rare example of this distinctive local building type seen in a farmstead context”, and that it “provides a valuable illustration of an unusual local and regional building tradition”.
