70% of respondents to the Survey asked for additional benches in the village and we felt that it was really important during the current lockdowns while so many villagers were out walking. We had heard from a number of residents that, when they were wanting to take their daily walk around the village, there weren’t enough benches to take a rest when needed.
We approached the Parish Council who kindly agreed to fund five benches, two to replace the ones that had collapsed on Green Acre and three others around the village. Working together, the Parish Council, the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group and residents have chosen three sites around the village to put the new benches.
One is at the Valley Road end of Bantocks Road, next to the bus-stop, the second is next to the footpath in The Street (opposite the Old School) and the third, a ‘chat bench’ is on the green area opposite the Overing Avenue field. They were installed by the friendly chaps at KH Landscapes & Garden Maintenance.
We are very grateful to the three different landowners – Babergh District Council, Suffolk County Council and Landex for agreeing to have the benches on their land. We would also like to thank Roger Knight and Sue Clements, our Parish Clerk for working so hard with us to get this done.
